I refrain myself of writing novel as I am not sure it is one. No matter how dark the clouds over the said family might be, there is always a bright light looming over the writing of A. Lobo Antunes. As strange as it can be, especially if we take into consideration the fact that reading this book can be physically exhausting, it happens so. Of course one could argue with this interpretation. It is oh so easy to open the book, read the first few chapters, close the book and never pick it up again.

Truth be said, it took me three readings of the first two chapters in order to the sun light shining through the hospital windows to embrace me into the mood of the book. Not a happy one, considering we are faced with a family waiting for the father to go into heart surgery, so he can come as good as new to the Inten ive Care Unit.

Three readings it took me to ask that inevitable question: what is that night the title speaks of? It is a recurring question throughout the book, mostly because it changes with the chapters.
